February 19th - Community Relay Race a WIN for all !!!!

It may have been cold out, but it was pleasant with no snow or ice to contend with.
Members had a table full of information as they came in the door to sign in.

We had six areas set up for the guild groups to set at for their work area.  The black cheering squad represented fabric donated by Farbric Essentials in Concordia  (site).  White cheering squad represented All About Quilts in Manhattan (site).

Purple cheering squad represented fabrics donated by Kansas Troubles Quilters in Bennington (site)
Yellow cheering squad represented Quilters Yard in Junction City (site).

Orange cheering squad represented Material Girls Quilt Shop in Abilene (site).
Red cheering squad represented Hidden Treasures Quilt Shop in Mankato (site).

There was on display, finished quilts showing the ladies what their efforts in the jelly roll race would produce.  This quilt was made possible by the donations from Lucky Charms in Chapman (site)

And this quilt was made possible by donations from Sew Country in Belleville (site).

Please visit these wonderful quilt shops, support them and thank them for their kind and generous donations that made it possible for us to have this evening and to have quilts ready for any community service need.

Jane C. had a small jelly roll and decided she would give it a try at home to see how the Jelly Race II goes together.  This is a darling quilt, looking forward to seeing it finished.

Pres. Ginny started the evening with a short business meeting

keeping us updated on what is going on

and getting our input to how we want the guild to run.

Sara explained this months BOM Row by Row with a square in a square.  There are several ways to do it, one way Sara demonstrated was the fold and sew method.  You can go here to see one way to do this method.  And Sara handed out directions with another site option.
Look at all the January rows that were brought in by members.
This is an exciting BOM offering this year as you can change it around, make it vertical or horizontal, small or large, multiple rows - what ever your heart desires.

Then it was off to the races........
LeMoyne Star Group

Jelly Roll race that is.
Ohio Star Group.

Royal Cross Group

Rambler Group
Heart Basket Group

and the Dredsen Plate Group.

Look through the next few pictures and see everyone at work and the techniques they each used to accomplish their goal.

One of the groups was able to finish the main section and were thinking about the borders they would be putting on.  Each group had volunteers to finish either/or the tops, quilting and binding before they will be turned into Community Service Chairperson Ruth Ann.  We are looking for a finished date of April at the latest.  If you have any questions, please get with her.  Was a fantastic group sew and so much accomplished, socially as well as the quilts.

Then it was time for a break and Show 'n Tell

Karen was our president in 2016 and got her thank you blocks all put together in this churn dash quilt.  Loved the 30's fabric that she used to finish it.

Karen's sister made her this Snow Bird quilt.  Remember you can click on a picture to have it come in larger.  This is one that you definitely have to click on and see.

Deb M is hiding behind one of her cancer quilts she has just finished.  Unfortunately she has 5 to do

and here is a second one finished.
Keep up the much appreciated work Deb.

Juanita has a granddaughter that has a birthday coming up and she is totally into mermaids.  So of course grandmother made her this lovely mermaid quilt and a pillow cover to match.

Jane has been putting a flannel rag quilt together.  She bought the flannel and loves the fact

that she has a finished back as well.

Jan may have been away for part of the winter, but she has accomplished so much.
And mom, Donnis, has helped in many ways.  Jan took her the cut pieces and Donnis put them into blocks and then Jan finished the quilt.

Jan wasn't sure if she had showed us this small quilt, course with us, we love seeing them no matter how many times.

Jan's group here in Kansas has been working with the quick curve ruler and everyone made a quilt and then they gave them to someone in the group.  This is the quilt that Jan got.
Perhaps Jan will give us a demo at one of the sew days.

Jan has a small group started down south to learn to quilt.  She had them do this small star quilt as a beginning class.

and then make a bigger one.  Beautiful Jan.  Those are some very lucky ladies.

Teresa made this quilt - not sure, but this may be one that is being donated to the Texas need.

Donna showed off this "community" quilt that is going to be donated to the Texas need.
It is a community togetherness quilt as Frances B. gave the cut pieces to Donnis who sewed them together into blocks, then Frances sewed the blocks together and then Donna finished it all up.

And here is another quilt going to Texas.

Colleen made this brick quilt to donate.

And this one also.  Love the blocks, a little crazy going on here.

Lorraine showed her finished baby blankets.  She has one more to do and then that pile is finished.  Don't you love it when you complete a goal?

Erlene has been very busy.  Last year she was unable to be with us for the guild challenge, the quilt on the left is what she made from the orphan block she picked up.  The bags on the right are finished and ready to go to her daughter (I think).

Sometimes we wait for ever to finish something as was the case in the round quilt/mug rug. Erlene had it finished except for the binding.  Then she made some darling rugs with spider buttons and webs.  And some valentine ones also.
Jenell was unable to be with us last month when we showed our "New Years Resolution" UFO's.
This is a kit that she got of Iowana's.  This will be gorgeous all done.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone's finished resolutions in November.

We had a few other announcements and then meeting was adjourned.

Saw Marilyn walking out the door with her bag from last January and had to get a shot.
Glad the bags are being made use of.

Have a safe month and see you in March.
