January 18th - NEW YEAR'S UFO RESOLUTION - Program

 President's Message

I hope everyone is healthy and doing everything you can to stay safe. It may be another rough year for meetings, but we can weather this storm together. I will get with the board members to talk about maybe having a meeting next month, we have to look at this a month at a time, and February may be too soon. Please continue to send Geri Carlson your quilt Show & Tell pictures, we would love to see them in person also when we start up again. May your bobbins always be full!

                                                                                         2021 President Winnie Wells

************************************************************************

Each Month, in person or here on the blog, I would like to share some of my favorite tools or tips that have been given me through the years.  This month, my tip is from a long arm quilting friend.

Not sure how you want to quilt your newest finished project?

Get yourself either a piece of clear vinyl at Wal-Mart or JoAnns, or a piece of
plexi-glass from a hardware store, or even a sheet protector sleeve like the kids use at school.
(TIP: Put painters' tape around the edges so that you know when to stop marking before you
go off the edge and end up marking your quilt.)

Lay it on your quilt and then grab a dry erase marker or even washable markers like shown
above, and start doodling to see what design you want to use. If you do not like it - wipe it
off with a dry paper towel with the dry erase, or a wet paper towel with the washable markers
- and go at it again. As you doodle, your hand is picking up the memoryof its movement
which will help when you sit down or stand up at your machine, to quilt the design.

"NEW YEARS UFO RESOLUTIONS"

Our January program is for and from any and all guild members that wanted to pick one UFO, whether it was a project started, fabric bought and never used, or a pattern laying in a drawer forever.  ONE THING that they ARE GOING to finish up in 2021 by the November 15th meeting.

Here are the ladies that have been able to send me off a picture of their projects.

Carol S. is going to finish up her version of the Spring Cleaning quilt started  ?? years ago.  She even has a drawing of how she wants to lay out her blocks.

(Picture coming.)
Coleen W. is working on her Embroidered Snowman A to Z quilt that she started a couple of years ago.
She started it in 2017 and in just a few months had all the embroidery done, but taking it from a Twin to a Queen has kept it dragging along in the 'Get 'er done' pile.

Bev R. has two of these and she KNOWS at least one is going to be done and ready come November.
You go Bev.

Cindy K. is not sure yet what will be made, but her resolution is to use up some of her neutral fabrics.
Looking forward to seeing what this collection ends up to be.

Jane C. is working on finishing the above quilt.  Looks like a few more blocks are needed - thinking of you Jane as you put this all together.

Karen U. has had this pattern since the 1980's, guess it is time to make up the "Blooming Lily Feather Star".  It will be a beauty.  Good goal Karen.

Kim H.'s chose this Laundry Basket Quilt to make - "Blooming Star"
Glad it is her and not me.  Cheering you on Kim.

I am praying that Lorraine H. does not go blind putting this Craftsy "Boundless" kit together.  Lovely to see, when I can get my eyes steady on it.  You go woman!

Sorry about Sara B's "Checkerboard", I was unable to turn it around.  Tip your head to the right and you can see it better.  Better yet, click on it and have it come in larger.

Here are some of the blocks she is preparing for the quilt.
Looking good Sara.

Teresa E is working on this bedroom quilt - white with multi colors running through it.  If you are quilting this yourself Teresa - You go.  Look at all that negative space that she can fill in.  Wonder what she will use?

Verna Lee plans on finishing up her wavy log cabin table runners.  Glad she is working on this - perhaps we can get her to give us some tips at our July workshop (Please let it happen world.).

Winnie W. is going to get her orange and black with truck quilt put together in good time for the Reveal Stage.

Vevia's quilt is from a BOM she/I was involved in this past year with Sew Country in Belleville.  Have all the blocks done, now just have to figure out how I want to put them together.

Thank you everyone for sending your pictures in for this Blog Program of the Piotique Quilters Guild.
As Winnie stated in the beginning - maybe it won't be long before we can meet again - even masked and social distanced.  Things will be looking up - have faith and keep moving on.

Be sure to get your Show 'n Tell pictures in to Geri.

2021 Guild Challenge

Bev has come up with a great Challenge this year.  Something any and all of us can jump in and do.

Check out the forms section on the left of the blog to print out your own copy, here is a shot of the challenge for your reading pleasure.

2021 Piotique Quilters Guild Challenge

Hosted by:  Bev Reiger

“THIS IS HOW I JELLY ROLL”

How do you use a jelly roll?  Show us.

There is no limit on how many strips from your 2 ½” Jelly Roll collection you can use to create a Jelly Roll quilted item of your own design.

Take only the strips you like, or left-over strips from another project, or go out and buy a new jelly roll, or cut out your strips from your own stash, your choice.  Let the strips jump start your imagination and use them whole, cut up, mixed or matched, however you would like – and end up with a table topper, wall hanging, table runner, baby quilt (perhaps to donate to Project Linus), or anything else you would like to make.

There are only a few guidelines to this challenge:

Maximum size in any direction cannot exceed 48”

It must be sandwiched and quilted

Bound in the technique of your choice

            Labeled

Our Guild Challenge is scheduled to happen on Monday, October 18th.  A few weeks before that you will be given directions of where and by when - to turn in your guild challenge.

Judging will be     1.  Color

                             2. “Creative Genius” of strip use

                             3.  Best of Show

Have fun!  Enjoy!  This is not a hard challenge and I hope many of you will participate.

If you have any questions, you can contact me at (785) 632-4597.

Beverly Rieger, Challenge Host
