Our embroider-ers came early and worked on their projects and talked shop. Was a very relaxing time before the regular meeting started.

By 7:00 pm there was a good house full - 32 members and 3 guests.
Carol started the meeting off by telling us that with all our fabrics and such - we are not horders - we just love fabric more than others! Yeah! Carol!!!!
Show 'n Tell started off with Carol B. showing us this panel that she made practicing her free motion quilting on.

Got a picture of the back so everyone could see all the quilting that Carol put into this.
Francis B. had a little help putting this charity quilt together. Thank you to everyone that did the blocks of disappearing 9-patches for this quilt, thank you to those that helped put it together and thank you to the member that volunteered to bind it. We have such a great group.
Francis had enough extra finished blocks to fancy up the back.
This quilt was donated to the charity committee and will be given to the family that recently had the fire.
Sara's Show 'n Tell this month was for Haley who is already back to school. The needlepoint and the table runner both took high marks - check out our fair pictures to see what they did win.
Dixie's guest had asked Dixie to help make a t-shirt quilt.
This is the end result. Love the pink and black saying in the middle.
Virginia showed her Chick in the Garden that she entered at the fair.
Hopefully the rest will have theirs done by next years Fair and we can have them in "Silk Ribbon Embroidery" class.
Jenell H. designed and made the rose quilt shown here. Wow, Jenell - great work.
Donna showed a book that she got and asked if anyone had more information on the writer.
Donna also introduced us to her guest and
the young lady that she had mentored - Her guest showed us the pillow that she had made that took first and then Reserve Champion. Donna encourages all of us to find someone to mentor. Perhaps we can get another Mentoring Program started next year.
Lisa was not thrilled with this quilt, got tired and did not put on all the vines - but after Susie quilted it - Okay, it stays. Great looking quilt.
Deb finished another of Iowana's table runners.
Deb always finds time to get things done - this is a Christmas quilt alk ready for this years season.
Deb O. had taken a BOM at Sew Country and this is the lovely end result of it.
Great job Deb, love the light and airy look it has.
Erlene is waiting for Susie to get all better so that she can quilt this Mystery Quilt. In a mystery quilt, you never know till the end what it will be - this one came out great.

Program
Ginny started us off by introducing Carol B. who would cover the Free Motion Quilting part of the Mentoring Night.
Carol went over the seven steps to get you ready for free motion work and explained each one in fuller detail. Feed dogs don't go down, don't fret - Carol stated that you can put a card over them.
For the gloves - she had a couple different pairs to show us the possibilities.
She uses one for small projects and another which has larger bumps on the fingers for larger projects.
One of the things that Carol has is this table that tilts her machine up at an angle so that it is not so hard to see what she is doing. She also showed us the blunted scissors with a couple of bends in it to make it easier to pick up when you have the gloves on and that gets in and does the cutting without putting your fabric in jeopardy.
We watched a short video of free motion quilting by Patsy Thompson. Click on her name and you will go to one of her you tube programs. She has many You Tube videos available or see Ginny and borrow her DVD.

Ginny introduced us to
Seminole patchwork. She handed out sheets showing 10 designs from Cheryl Greider Bradkin's book. You can check out the author on line to see what all is available, there is even a You Tube with Trish Peek using Cheryl's book, that shows some of the steps.

Ginny had many samples available to show us how you start with strips, cut and end up with the seminole pattern.
The more strips you add....
the more involved your patchwork will look - without all the difficulty.

Vevia gave a rundown of her trip to Paducah, KY and Quilt Week.
Quite a few of our members have been there, some even as much as three times.
Vevia handed out book marks with some pertinent history information regarding Paducah. Because of the flood of 1937 - 22 miles of levees were made, 3 miles in cement. Took 10 years to finish - and now those miles of cement are refered to as the WALLS. Click www.paducahwalltowall.com to go see a short video and history of the wall.
You can also go see a video of Quilt Man - Paducah's super hero. There is so much to see in Paducah. Jan mentioned the quilts, Verna Lee loved Eleanor, Deb loves the down town.
And some people want to return, others not so much.

Next month is Dyeing with nature's colors with Roxie McGee (ask Francis B who this is), and then in September we have David and Teresa Duwe from Wichita showing us their love of quilting. That Tuesday (Sept. 22nd) they will be having a workshop on the Fibonacci Sequence.
Carol gave us a little hint with the sign above.
And Ginny showed us the samples. Please sign up as soon as possible so that the ladies know if there will be enough to hold the workshop. The price is only $20 - fantastic costs - there are classes out there in the hundreds - through your guild you save big.

This month with the Glads is a lot easier than last month with the Larkspurs.

Thank you ladies for getting in there and doing such a grand job with your Larkspurs. It was not an easy flower, but you all made it gorgeous.
